[pct-l] Real Bear Trouble in '04 -- Attacks and Raids
Bears can be intimidated. I was hiking up the beautiful valley to the
Rae Lakes BAsin and came around a corner and there was a bear grubbing
in a log. I backed up to the corner and harumphed. The bear did a
double take, literally, and bounded away across the valley. I watched
him go and started walking. I continued to watch him and he paralleled
me across the valley. I stopped, took a big breath and let out a very
high decibel and what must have been a very inteimidating roar. The
bear stopped, flinched almost, and like a cowed dog, curled around and
lumbered into the forest, looking back over his shoulder. I don't think
he could see me cause they don't have good eyesight, but I felt at top
of the food chain for a couple minutes.
