Boy am I glad you explained GATR, in my mind everytime I saw GATR all I
thought about was Gateraide <:)

And now....for something completely different....
GATR stands for Ground to Air, Transmit and Recieve. The road led to the
radio station for the old air base, which was opened in 1952 and closed at
the
end of the Cold War. The radio station had to be housed away from the
radar
dome, which, evidentally, interfered with radio transmission.
I'm certain everyone was aching to know that.
