Have you thought about staying in a hostel? Prices are about $16, or  
$38 for a private room if available. It costs an extra $3 if you're not  
an H.I. member, but you get a discount if you are traveling by bicycle.  
I figure that if you've hiked the PCT, CDT and AT a ride from Kansas to  
Portland should be no big deal.
