I have a theory that Bears prey upon the northbound pack and leave
southbounders alone.
For example, if the pack leaves Kennedy Meadows fully stocked with food
and hikes north 20 miles, that's where the food stealing bears hang
out. A fully stocked southbounder who leaves Kennedy will camp 20 miles
(in my case 15 miles) out at a place where the northbound pack had
previously run low on food.
To bears the few southbounders are not seen as a food opportunity worth
the effort.
This is the latest stealth camping technique.
Hike Southbound.
