[pct-l] specific questions regarding dogs on the trail

i'm planning on thru hiking in 2006, and i'm debating taking my dog with me.

i'm interested in hearing from people who have taken a dog along with them 
regardingt he specific thigns they learned while hiking with their dog(s). 
would you do it again? how did you address the national park issue? did you 
address it at all or just ignore it? how was the food/water issue? booties 
for the dog? leash issues? i know dogs on the trail are supposed to be 
leashed, but rarely have i seen this. did you have any issues with having 
him/her off leash? did you keep him/her on leash 100% of your hike? are 
there other issues you would advise looking into that i haven't covered?
