Does anyone know when the next map is coming out (Big Bear and points north, in other words)?  The reason ask is that I am planning a section hike in the Mohave in late winter/early spring.

Angela, at the PCTA, was responsible for much of the literature content of 
the first map and is working on the next.  I met with Liz Bergeron last week 
regarding the emerging Youth Outreach Program and she gave me one!  It is 
beautiful, but too bulky and too heavy for a thru or ultralight hiker to carry.  
Great for section hikers, weekenders and for planning purposes.  Tons of 
information on this one.  I'll bring it to the kickoff.

New Maps for hikes on Pacific Crest Trail

The U.S. Forest Service has released a new map of the Southern California 
portion of the Pacific Crest Trail -- the first of 10 that will cover the entire 
2,650-mile route.

The richly detailed maps, printed on tear-resistant and waterproof synthetic 
paper, fold up small and contain topo-graphic and geographic coordinates, 
trail elevations,and details about access roads, trail heads, and feeder trails.

Previously, hikers needed multiple maps to get the information contained in 
one new map.

The first map, covering 250 trail miles frrom the Mexico border to north of 
Big Bear Lake, sells for $8 and may be obtained by calling (928) 443-8285 or at
