[pct-l] Dress Me Up & Pack Me Out, Part 3

FWIW, I bring the same clothing with me for both hot
desert conditios of S. Cal and the Sierra. Though you
are hiking through the desert, it is the HIGH desert
and can be cool at night. And, you will be going into
higher elevations from time to time before the High
Sierra (eg. San Jacintos, San Gabs).

Here is what I currently use. Feel confident with this
kit in all kinds of three-season hiking:

NOTES:

Notice for clothing packed I have a pair of fleece
socks; this is my "sacred stash" that never gets worn
except at night. It is always dry. Also carry a
balaclava, for a little more weight I extend my
comfort level immensley at night and during the day if
need be.
My rain gear is more like wind gear. You do not have
to go to that extreme for ounce counting..any
windpants/ nylon jacket will do the same function for
a little more weight. Check out Frogg Toggs as well.

For clothing worn I agree with Chris' philosophy. You
don't see Bedu wearing sunscreen. Better to wear long
sleeves, pants and a wide hat. I did not use long
pants myself as I do not enjoy hiking in long pants in
warmer weather. I tend get deeply tanned in the sun
due to my ancestry so that helps as well. This type of
clothing also helps in the intense UV radiation of the
High Sierra. Some people suggest wearing a little
sunscreen due to possible reflection from the snow.
(Esp if you don't have a beard).

Finally, I've used this clothing sysytem (or similar)
in everything from the desert of S. CAl to a snowstorm
at 12000+ ft on the Colorado Trail and was fine. YMMV.

My total base pack weight is now sub 10lbs for
whatever that is worth. On the PCT was ~12lbs.
