What timing!  The trekking pole that I converted to a fishing pole for the 
gear contest in 2002 will be featured in Backpacker magazine soon.  My newest 
design comes to less than 7 oz. for the reel, clamps, tip, line, guide, etc.  
The trekking pole is already coming along to help you hike and to hold up your 
shelter, why not use it as a fishing pole also?
