This is AT-speak. The AT is marked by a series of white blazes with side
trails being distinguished by blue blazes. So, "blue blazing" is taking
side trails, usually for the purpose of cutting off some distance. Someone
coined the phrase "yellow blazing" to describe hitch hiking.
