[pct-l] Badwater, Blisters and Bikes

I thought I would mention the material relating to extreme heat endurance techniques collected by various folks interested in the Badwater Ultramarathon, especially Badwater Bad Feet Blister Buster by Denise Jones (with good quotes from John Vonhof) available here:

Seems like some of this might be useful to long distance desert hikers, also.

Regarding bikes, the only problem I seem to have with bikes on trails where bikes are prohibited is that my danged trekking poles seem to be forever getting tangled in passing biker's spokes. This tends to bang up my poles and doesn't do the bikers any good either. It can be particularly nasty when an errant pole locks up somebody's front wheel. Why, those bikes just act like a catapult, you know, and I always feel so inadequate with my minimalist ultralight first aid kit and my lame apologies. It also seems that denatured alcohol is a bit harsh when used as a wound disinfectant.
