[pct-l] Nuplse North Face Jacket

Ok Ok, North face stuff may work ok, but so does a bunch of other stuff...

Stuff that isn't made by a corporate mega-giant... In fact north face used
to be like all the sweet, sweet stuff small guys but I think now they are
owned by something like Kraft or some big company.

And part of it is fashion. Being someone who has been into outdoorsey stuff
for a long time NF was new and neat back in '89 but now every kid in a
college town is sporting it and the novelty has warn off. I'm just really,
really sick of seeing north face stuff on the backs of the population.

When I backpack i go to get away from it all and when I sport NF stuff I'm
not getting away from it. It's about getting away from that stuff (for me
anyway). And they sell NF stuff in dept stores now! DAHHHHH! It's
kill'in me folks! Actually I am worn out on the being killed by it and just
don't care about it anymore. It's like nalgene bottles - a thing made to
look outdoorish but really is just a plastic way-to-heavy-for backpacking
bottle that leaches plastic into your body (a known edocrine disruptor).

And NF stuff isn't made well. The little guys have much tighter control of
their construction process, I'm sure. I used to work in an outdoor store
and I remember some of the backpacks being poorly constructed. It suprised
me at the time because I thought, as you may now, that NF was good stuff.

here are some other guys that are smaller companies than NF and make much
better stuff, in my opinion
www.granitegear.com
www.ula-equipment.com
www.westernmountaineering.com
even marmot is still owned by marmot i think. www.marmot.com
www.patagonia.com

Sorry if you are a NF guru, all you have to do to fix it is blackin in your
NF logo with a magic marker! Yes!
But seriously I don't care as much as this email may sound, and I have
friends who sport the NF logo... But they are NOT cool and people pick on
them. Just kidding.
Hello walker people,

When it comes down to it you need stuff to keep ya comfortable in the
backcountry, I undestand this, and when you are out there it really doesn't
matter what the brand is. But whenever you go to the store and look down at
your wrist at your new WWHSD? (what would Henry Shires do?) bracelet, give
it a thought. Because Henry Shires is the man. Legend has it that in the
great snowstorm of '95, a woolly mammoth actually stepped on him while he
was sleeping on the pct. His trusty tarptent's ridgeline was tight enough
to fend off the beast. Yeah, he came out alive.

And, on another subject, I know I've cut on Moak's stuff in the past , but
damn it, I've never really used it and I'm sure he is a hell of a guy. Ron,
forgive me, I have never mustered the nuts to even pick up a needle and
thread and you have created some great ultralight stuff. I apologize.

I miss the trail,
