[pct-l] affording a thru-hike

This works out particularly well if you live in a place you like. I wanted access to prime outdoor locations on the weekends, in addition to the summers. So, I got a job in the northwest and left Indiana. In doing so, I left a research job at a university for a teaching job at a community college, a definite step down in the eyes of my (research) peers, but a step up in quality of life, I think.
