[pct-l] Trail head on Highway 49 near Sierra City

Hi Jo!

A good friend of mine and I just hiked this section the week before last and
it was beautiful, easy forest and ridge hiking with some outstanding views and
afternoon thunder / rain / hail storms that were for the most part pretty
light.

The trail head on Highway 49 is marked pretty well and is just a mile and a
half or so north on 49 from Sierra City. There is a large water tank that
looks like it used to be buried sitting on the south side of the highway very near
where the trail winds up from the Yuba River.

If the weather is warm enough the water in Milton Creek was a great refresher
for us and then when you get to the Yuba River there is a large bridge over a
huge calm pool that just calls to you to go swimming in.

Watch out for a hive of yellow jackets living under a log just off of the
trail and just about a quarter mile north of White Rock Creek.

There is little to no water between White Rock Creek and Jackson Reservoir, a
long stretch, so carry enough with you from White Rock Creek.

Enjoy.

Hi--
This is Jo the section hiker again! Some of you were very kind to give me
directions early this Summer on our several section hikes North from
Tuolumne Meadows. Well, barring snow, my husband and I are determined to
walk one last section before the winter closes in and have found a trail
angel to pick us up where the PCT crosses highway 49 near Sierra City (we
plan to hike this short section this coming Sat and Sun from Donner Pass).
So, not being familiar with the intersection and already having got
ourselves in a bit of a muddle at other trailheads, I am hoping that someone
knows the area and can give us good instructions for our friends to pick us
up. Any advice would be most welcome. Thank-you!
