I have found that one can become addicted to High Sierra backcountry in
a month's time. I did my first month-long in '96 (JMT) and have been
back for the month of August every year since, doing 300 mile circuits,
using the PCT for about half the journey. These trips are absolutely
necessary to my existence. I sob when I look at the pictures, during
the eleven months of the year I can't be there.
