[pct-l] Scott Williamson Update

PA Jeff, Mad Monte Dodge and I ran into "Sevant" on 9/30 near White Rock
Creek (just north of Donner Pass). He said that he was averaging 32 to 36 miles
per day (!) trying to catch Scott but reaiized that he has little or no chance
as Scott was 5 to 6 days ahead of him at that time and moving at equal to
better pace. Monte invited him to the ALDHA-West gathering but the timing
apparently just didn't work out as he would have had to take a zero day, while
contemplating whether the weather would hold long enough for him to get through the
High Sierra. He thinks that there may be another SOBO behind him. We advised
him to contact you, Donna, for desert water source status and Forest closure
info.

How about we suggest to the Forest Service making a qualified exception for
the SOBO thru-hikers? That is, you can hike through but NO fires of any kind.
If I was SOBO I would easily adjust to a no-cook diet in order to get through.

Best regards,

Greg
