I used to have a online search function, but it was abused by someone to
the point of almost killing the server (i.e. not just a lot of
searches, but some sort of script to keep my boxes overwhelmed).
Anyway, I'll take a look at bringing this back online today- you're not
the only one who's asked recently.

Anyone can do pretty decent searches of the archives via Google. Just
go to http://www.google.com and enter your search query like this:
site:www.backcountry.net "pct-l" references <whatever words you want to
search for>
The site part restricts the search to the pct-l host site, the "pct-l"
part (mostly) restricts the search to the PCT email list, and the
references part (mostly) restricts it to actual emails rather than lists
of email subjects.
Ryan, you could probably hook up Google searches direct from you site;
see http://www.google.com/searchcode.html. (I haven't used this myself,
but I've seen it done and it seems to work just fine.)
