[pct-l] Some help with my mother

Go to the ALDHA Gathering with your mother this Columbus Day week-end. That
should do it. Maybe she will want to join you on the trek after that (now
that could be dangerous). Or, she will help folks on the AT.

Moms are suppose to worry, so you won't ever stop that. But, you can phone
every 3 to 7 days. The bears eat food not people and the chances of you
having any dangerous encounter is about zero (mice and mosquitoes -
guaranteed). People dangers - unlikely, but get together with others at the
kick-off and you rather eliminate the chances. Did you ever get off to
college? I'd say that is far more dangerous than the PCT.

As for training, most hikers say that the AT tread is far more difficult
than the PCT with its numerous switchbacks. But, training for the desert
heat and the altitude will be almost impossible for you. You do what you
can.

Have a wonderful trek.
