[pct-l] Road walk version of the detour

My guess is that they're walking Hwy 2 east to Cole's Corner, then north
along the east side of Lake Wenatchee, then left (north) onto the Chiwawa
River Road which goes all the way to Trinity where the trail to Buck Creek
Pass begins. That trail is the continuation of the re-route. This road
walk avoids the up and down route thru the Napeequa, but it also avoids some
of the most beautiful and remote wilderness along the entire PCT. The
Napeequa is a spectacular wilderness valley that is accessible only over 3
high passes. The hanging glaciers on the north face of Clark Mountain
tumble nearly to the valley floor. The north face of Clark Mountain is one
of the most beautiful mountains in America, but seldom seen and seldom
photographed due to its remoteness and difficult access. If this is the
road walk they're doing, it also bypasses some nice meadow and ridge walking
between Steven's Pass and Glacier Peak. If it were me, I'd take the trail.
It's much more scenic. Last weekend we were told that the Napeequa ford was
not that difficult--just below the knees. The Little Giant trail is steep
and rocky--you gotta be careful--but not really dangerous unless you try to
do it at night with no moon and no flashlight.
