[pct-l] death of a hiker

A week or so before this incident at the intersection above the guard cabin I had a conversation with a guy who had tried to cross this spot the night before and chickened out. He had even started across with half his pack contents and still decided he would rather wait and sleep there and cross when there were other hikers to spot him.
Mother Nature can be a bitch sometimes and it pays not to argue with her.

As far as second guessing the pack contents, weight, etc, sometimes even the best decisions aren't good enough. I'm with Sly, pitch me off the side of something gorgeous when it's my time to go.

I'd be honored to tell the story "that's where one-eye sly sucked down his
last trail smoke right there" at the top of a scenic pass or taking a soak
in a creek.

careful out there,
