[pct-l] JMT - VVR to Whitney (Transpo Issues)
It seems nobody can recommend doing the drive into VVR. You might
consider an easier trailhead. Using two east side entries would
considerably simplify your car shuttle. I can recommend the Coldwater
Campground trailhead south of Lake Mary in Mammoth. This is close to
395 and has a big parking lot. You start with a spectacular hike over
Duck Pass and join the PCT at Duck Lake. This would add about 25 hiking
miles.
If that adds too much length to the trip, then consider entering at Rock
Creek, crossing Mono Pass and taking the Mono Creek trail to the JMT.
This would give you about 14 more hike miles, and hike the same distance
on the JMT as your VVR plan.
Shuttling from VVR to Whitney by car is a zillion miles of driving. It
is a relatively short hop if you stay on the east side.
