this is true, BUT you could get that one stretch of bad weather that 
occurs every so often.  I have done 12 multi-day hikes in the Sierra 
and only been rained on one trip.  On the JMT, we got rain 10 of 12 
days and snow on one of the days with rain.  One in 12 is not bad 
odds :-)
