[pct-l] Greyhound Bus service

This loss of Greyhound service has far wider impact than just WA and OR for
PCT hikers. It will also impact hikers on the CDT and the PNT. From The
Oregonian for June 26, pages E1 and E2. I quote parts of the article: 150
workers and 100 buses will be ideled.

"DALLAS - Greyhound Lines Inc will stop bus service to many small towns
stretching from the northwest to Chicago to cut costs and focus on its most
profitable routes. The company announced Friday that it would close 260
stops, leaving 99 in its 13-state northern region effective August 18."

"Greyhound will make similar changes in other regions in the next two to
three years, said Chief Executive Stephen Gorman."

"In addition to Washington and Oregon, the reductions will affect service in
Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota,
Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, and Wisconsin. Isolated routes in a few other
states will also be affected, Greyhound said"

"Greyhound Lines Inc. says it will stop bus service on Aug 18 to the
following towns in Oregon and Washington:

OREGON:
Albany, Arlington, Ashland, Bandon, Bend, Biggs, Boardman, Brightwood,
Brookings, Canyonville, Chemult, Cooc Bay, Cottage Grove, florence, Gold
Beach, Government Camp, Klamath Falls, LaPine, Lincoln City, Madras,
McMinnville, Newberg, Newport, North Bend, Port Orford, Redmont, Reedsport,
Rhododendron, Sandy, Sheridan, Troutdale, Waldport, Warm Springs, Wemme,
Zigzag.

WASHINGTON:
Blaine, Camas, Castle Rock, Cle Elum, Connell, Fort Lewis, George,
Goldendale, Grandview, Lyle, north Bend, North Bonneville, Prosser,
Richland, Ritzville, Skamania, Snoqualmie Pass, Toppenish, Walla Walla,
Wapato, Washougal."

Marshall is correct - this will adversely affect hikers at Ashland, Bend,
Government Camp (Timberline Lodge), and Snoqualmie Pass.

Subject: [pct-l] Greyhound Bus service

Article in today's paper says that on August 18th Greyhound will stop
serving several smaller towns and cities. This may impact some hikers
thinking of using the bus. Cities mentioned include: Ashland, Bend,
Government Camp (Mt. Hood), Sandy, Snoqualmie Pass.

Also will impact Montana, Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and other states -
cities not given. No mention of Canadian routes, like to Manning Park.

Not sure if that means they will refuse to stop if you want to get out or
get on.
