[pct-l] Getting to SF from Lone Pine

Marshall's idea seems really reasonable - and once you're there, provided
you can rent a car, you're set up for a more efficient drive north to SFO
via Hwy 178 westbound (which goes over Walker Pass) to Interstate 5, a much
faster road than 395 to get to SF. Seems to me that you can call either of
the locations Marshall found and explain your situation. While the
Ridgecrest-Inyokern doesn't have a huge population, it's the center of a
large naval base (really. in the desert.) and the rental car agencies may
be more willing to "lose" a car to SFO.

Another option for you may be to take the Crest bus to Reno, then get to the
Reno-Lake Tahoe airport and fly to SFO. It's a thought.

My post may not have gone through because of an attachment. Here is the

Try going from Inyokern. just a bit further south. Avis rents there (and
maybe Hertz). When we exited from Kennedy Meadows we drove from there to
Portland. As I remember, we had to call when we got to the airport and wait
for someone to come from Ridgecrest.
