I agree with Ron Smith:  Don't take the so-called "alternate" North of 
Cascade Locks.  It's not sensible.  It's a road walk.  The PCT between 
Cascade Locks and Panther Creek has some amazing views, and it's the 
freakin' PCT.  Just my two cents.
