[pct-l] Old PCT marker on Ebay!

Okay, Joanne, let's take it another direction. What about instead of an old
PCT diamond, you come across a gold miner's skeleton just off of the trail in
the California Gold Country portion of the PCT, with his old Jim Bowie knife
sticking out of his rib bones and a pick still clutched in his hand? Do you
pull off the bones and pick up the artifacts and sell them on ebay? Or, do you
call the local historical society? Or, do you make a note of the location in
your journal and keep it to pass onto only those who you know will preserve it
for those who follow?

I just love these hypothetical scenarios. I guess you just have to let your
own set of values and morality guide you in these cases.

In my opinion, if I were to come across such a diamond marker on an abandoned
section of trail I would feel honored to have found it and the little tiny
piece of history it represents. I would take a few pictures of it and the
surrounding area to show how it was on an abandoned trail and then mark its
location carefully, hoping that some great grandchild of mine might have the
opportunity to read in my notes of it and seek it out 100 years from now.
