[pct-l] staying light with a big bear can

not to be too chatty today, but I typed this out in response to an off-list
question, so I'll post it here. It's my modified frameless pack technique
to stay light with a large 10 day bearikade:

2 ground pads (yes 2 !! zzzzzzz) rolled as support frame inside the gust
creating a cavity
space blanket (my ground pad in a floorless shires tarptent) folded up and
wrapped up partially under the pads and between the pads and inside back of
the pack
night time fleece on top of that which provides lumbar support and pack
pivot point at rump, as well as base rest for the bearikade which goes in
next.
then I simply push my remaining clothing and tarptent down and around the
bearikade, and lastly my marmot hydrogen 30 deg. down bag and misc. equip.
on top of that.

As I hike and the food gets depleted, more gear goes inside the can and I
can just roll the open flap closure of the gust down further and further,
looking more and more like a true ultralighter by the end of the trip heh.

prolly about 15 lbs. base weight including my fishing gear and titanium fry
pan. And no water filter heh.
