Subject: [pct-l] hot spot

Sam asked:

>>Just bought another pair of hiking shoes (Lowa)-----have a hot spot on both feet in the same areas (under the metatarsils)--wearing light weight wool socks---
Any suggestions on a better choice, ie. Cool max or acrylic----any info welcome

Don't assume the hot spot is from the socks. You could have a raised section of the insole or midsole that is right under the metatarsal heads that is causing the hot spot. Light weight wool socks (i./e.: Smartwool and similar) should be fine but you could certainly try another pair. If the same this is felt, look beyond the socks as the culprit. Are the boots to narrow and pinching the forefoot that is lowering the metatarsal heads? Is it the typical red spot that would indicate a hot spot or could it be an early warning sign of a pinched nerve (metatarsalgia or Morton's Neuroma)?
