[pct-l] AIWA Radio for Trail

Cool! The Sony MD I carry now has all of that but the 45 hours. Current MDs
hold about 5 hours of 65 bit music. That's about FM radio quality. I usually
carry f or 6 disks on a long trail. A lithium AA last forever, it seems....

ON a related note to this, I'm waiting until the minidisc player that I want
comes out. It'll hold about 45 hours worth of music on one disc and have
AM/FM/weather/TV radio reception. I've seen them on the internet, just not
available yet, I believe. Their battery life is on the order of about 50
hours per single AA battery. You can't go wrong with that! I can fit my
entire music library onto one disc and carry one spare in case I find other
music to record along the way (it records to minidiscs as well, albeit with
more of a draw on the battery).

Several days ago Traildad had a link to "Flyin' Brians'" hiking list and I
noticed that he includes, as I do, an AM FM radio.

I always carry a small walkman style radio as I backpack or hike to listen
to NPR news, music, or sometimes AM talk--although I can't handle too much
of the right wing reactionary crap. I don't listen all day, but maybe
several hours a day depending on the situation. You know HYOH.

I have found a really good little radio at Sharper Image that has excellent
reception, bass boost for music, decent ergonomics, very light at no more
than 2 or 3 oz. including one aaa battery and earbuds. It's a little
expensive at $69.95, but it works well on the trail.
