[pct-l] US - Canada border crossing

My original plan was to hike a PCT section in Washington starting from
Manning but after the advise I got on this list about the difficulties
for crossing the border southbound for a non-US resident (I'm from
Spain) I am considering alternatives. One of them is hiking northbound
from Snoqualmie Pass and finishing at Manning so I can apply for the
Canada entry permit and be safe. Then I read the info at pcta.org about
this scheme and some questions arise:

It says on the form you have to report to the Canadian Mounted Police in
Hope, B.C. when you enter Canada but it also says, on the pcta.org site,
a report to customs is not necessary if your stay don't go beyond 24
hours. Do both sentences refer to the same thing? In short, if I don't
plan to stay in Canada any longer than necessary to take a transport and
leave back for the US, do I have to do something?

Most important: will I be able to enter the US again with no problems?
I'd probably be taking a bus from Vancouver to Seattle. The problem I
see is that it's ok for the canadians that I'm there, I've got the
permit for that, but for the US government I'm still in the US! so will
they let me in *again*? does the Canada entry permit do anything for
that, do the US government somehow know I've left for Canada?

Then, if the answer is I'll be ok entering the US again, which is then
the difference between this and doing it in the opposite direction? I
mean, following my original plan I'd travel by bus from Seattle to
Vancouver, then to Manning to then re-enter the US on the PCT and leave
for home from Seattle at the end of the month and I understand I can
have a problem when they check I want to leave *again* when I fly out
from Seattle (after having left for Canada with no record of my
returning)... but wouldn't it be even more problematic trying to
re-enter when I'm officially still in than trying to leave when I'm
officially already out? should I just change plans, do whatever to avoid
border crossings at all and forget about all the mess???

I made my questions to the local US embassy and, as announced in this
list when I asked before about all this, they don't know. They
recommended me to get a non-inmigrant visa (which otherwise I don't need
and costs $100) but couldn't guarantee that would be enough.

So it's a mess, I welcome any input. Good news preferred :)
