[pct-l] Hiking gear on planes

I happen to work for TSA and I can give you some insight on "checked
baggage" versus "carry on baggage"

On Checked pieces of luggage:

Things allowed:
knives
scissors
pepper spray (one 4 oz canister)
trekking poles
guns and rifles (with declaration docs)
ammo

NOT allowed
Fuel containers of any kind..even if brand new, they may be confiscated.
No stoves that have a fuel tank attached.
matches (any kind)
Lighters (any kind)
any volitile liquids

I am not sure about Esbit tablets..I will check and let you know

CARRY ON LUGGAGE
No knives
No pepper spray
No scissors
No guns or ammo
No poles, bats, golf clubs, hockey sticks or the like

I'll get the entire list tomorrow and try to post it...or provide a link..

Subject: [pct-l] Hiking gear on planes

Hi Hikers,
I will be flying out from the East Coast to start the PCT at the end of the
month and was looking for some advice as to what I can include in my
backpack which I will include with my checked luggage at the Airport. I
realize that I cannot include my penknife or my can of pepper spray, but
what about my alcohol stove, fuel bottle, Esbit fuel tablets, trekking
poles, scissors in my first aid kit. Any other advice as to any problems I
may encounter.

Thanks, Rudy [Reindeer]
