[pct-l] Cell Phones

Compare Dan's .25 per minute AT&T cell phone charges to the Costco phone
card that is .03 per minute. If only the calling card worked in the back
country where Dan's cell phone hopefully works.

Subject: [pct-l] Cell Phones

Saw some discussion about cell phones recently. I have an AT&T next
generation phone, though, the discussions have noted that there would be
expanded call areas in the old existing analog areas. There was a
recommendation for a tri-mode phone that would pick up both digital and
analog (hope that was correct, I was an Oceanography major).

I went down to the local AT&T store and confirmed that the above was correct
and found that the tri-mode (Digital One Service area) was much more
expanded. So I bought a refurbished Nokia 2260 for $30 and a $10 refill
card. The refill card will expire three months after activation but can be
refilled via toll free call and credit card. No service contract required,
use as you go. AT&T just went National with this program so the phone
should be good for CA/OR/WA at a rate of 25 cents per minute no roaming.

Now I will shop for a Direct TV antenna. See you all out there.

Dan
