[pct-l] whitney and whatever

The greyhound from LA to Reno has was discontinued at least two years ago. Below are a couple of web sites with Owens Valley transportation--none of which get you from Lone Pine to Lost Angels http://lomaprieta.sierraclub.org/pcs/info/shuttles.asp also http://www.395.com/index.shtml?/generalinfo/busservice.shtml I believe the 'hound only goes to Mojave.

Parking at Whitney Portal for your JMT hike is (relatively) safe. As opposed to parking your car at the Taboose Pass trailhead. Secure your car and make sure you have NOTHING that smells like ANYTHING in it. Do not lock valuables inside your car. The parking lots are large.

Getting down from Whitney Portal is easy. Thumb express. If that makes you uncomfortable, go up to Doug's (the portal eatery) and ask if anyone is going to town. It's not a brain surgery situation. Hikers will port hikers.

Lone Pine to Los Angeles is a different story.
