After buying my ice axe at REI, and walking to a friends house down Broadway
Ave in Seattle (a great haven of pierced and tattooed spare-change begging
gutter punks), I found that carrying an ice axe is a great deterrent to "Hey
man, have some change" as well as "Dude, can I bum a smoke?"

I want to start carrying it with me all the time :)
