Jonathan,

The Ghost is good for self-arrest, anchoring, digging cat holes and
banging against rocks to scare off bears.

When crossing snowy passes you'll probably be more inclined to
use your hiking poles than get out your ice axe. 

What a wonderful false sense of security hiking poles offer! :)
