Regarding electrolyte replacement, and issue of drinking only water
.salt etc. The best story and explanation is with Bill Gookin, who was a
competitive marathon runner and developed Gookinaid. Compared to
Gatorade its far superior. It has potassium, and other minerals needed
for true electrolyte replacement.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it on here. Packets are sold at REI

 

Most notable examples have been reported by rangers in Grand Canyon for
grand canyon hikers experiencing hyponatremia. Some deaths have
occurred.
