The PCT just touches Sequoia on its eastern border. The big trees are on the
western slopes... across the Kern Canyon and the Kaweahs... not an easy
prospect. From Cottonwood Pass you drop down 5000' into the Kern River canyon (15
miles) then north along the river to Big Arroyo, and up to Mineral King ( 17
miles). They you would hitch from Mineral King to the Big Trees... about 45
miles. Alternately, take the trail down Bubbs Creek at Vidette Meadows (between
Forester and Glen passes) , east to Cedar Grove (listed in the guide), then
hitch a ride to the big trees. It's about 17 miles from Vidette Meadow to a
road and about 50 miles from there to the Big Trees. My 2cents...not worth it,
in terms of difficulty, not in terms of seeing the trees.
