Hi Karin
The road goes into Kennedy Meadows and I am sure you could hitch from there.

If that is too soon, then I came of at Trail Pass Trail, which was a short
down to the campground and then I hitched into Lonepine and caught a
Greyhound there. Wonderful views coming down that road.

And if that is too soon, investigate the roads and trail junctions that take
you
up to the area to climb Mt. Whitney.  Think you have a few options there.
