I don't think the majority of potential thru hikers realize just how tiny the
resupply points are in Northern California, Oregon and Washington are. Look
at it this way: If they don't carry an item at your local gas station mini
mart, they are not likely to carry that same item at the resupply point, except
maybe fishing gear. 98% of the customers at these isolated places are not thru
hikers. They are not going to tie up money for years in inventory that few
people are going to buy. Better to put that money into guaranteed investments or
inventory with a high turnover. Isobutane cartridges are mostly sold at
sporting good stores and sporting good stores are few and far between on the PCT,
unless you hitch a ride to a large city. So if you are going to use isobutane you
will have to mail them to yourself, in clearly marked packages via non
airmail
