[pct-l] pct '04 planning

[Assuming I have my gear together, and I read up on what to expect and
when/where, what else really needs to be done? - Steve]

I think if you've got your gear and your health, you're ready. But for
me, planning was a way to burn some early trail energy. I was ready to
go long before I was able to leave work, but in all my weighing,
sorting, re-weighing, and resupply planning I was able to be a hiker
while still at home. By the time I left, I knew a lot of the history of
the areas I'd be hiking through, sunrise/sunset times, mileage between
all possible water sources, where I'd sleep each night, how many
calories I'd consume & burn, etc.

Of course, it all went out the window within the first 48 hours on the
trail, but it was a lot of fun and heightened my anticipation for my own
"day zero".
