David,
I used Aqua Mira on the JMT this past summer and loved it -- it didn't leave my intestines all gurgly like iodine tabs do. However, I did come across a guy on the trail who was recovering from a severe reaction to AM. For some reason, he thought it was because he'd had a bout of hepatitis in the recent past. I have no idea if there's any correlation.
I live in CA and had no problems buying it here.
