[pct-l] Seirra runs

A lot of people were sick in the early Sierra in 2003, too. I got hit hard.
We all assumed we picked something up at KM. Maybe from sharing food,
maybe from one of the restaurants, who knows.
I was buying into the hiker box theory but then Tangent brought up a good
point. There are hiker boxes everywhere, and this problem is specific to
one stretch of trail. It seems like there is an obvious connection with the
early Sierra and people getting sick. At least in 2002 and 2003. There's
got to be a source for this. Maybe a water source prior to KM? And it
doesn't sound like giardia. The people who I know who've had giardia are
sick for a long time. At least for longer than the people we know of who
were sick in the early Sierra.

It's possible, but doesn't explain why this didn't happen with similar
frequency anywhere else. I met an '01 hiker (Rufus) who trained with me
before my hike. He warned me, "Many people get sick in the Sierra." He had
no idea why.
But now that I think about it, It took me 4 days to get from KM to the
Vidette Meadow where I met my friends and took ill. If it was giardia or
crypto, I likely contracted it before arriving at KM. If it was food
poisoning, the timing seems a bit long.
You raise a good point though, I also plan to picky in what I take from
hiker boxes, too. No opened bags this time, just sealed items.
