>>>>1. Is the trail in reasonable condition (compared to say the JMT)?<<<<
The Bishop Pass Trail is well used and maintained. There is a resort near
trail head, which includes (damnable) horses , cabins, and, more importantly, a
resturant.
>>>2. Is it scenic?<<<
On the west side of Bishop Pass is Dusy Basin.... beautiful. Isoceles Peak,
the Palisades...which includes a couple of 140000 footers. There is also a
marvelous and easy cross country route from Dusy Basin to Lower Palisade Lake
which I highly recommend.
>>>3. How easy is it to hitch from the trailhead near South lake to Bishop
(& vice versa)?<<<<
I have hitched several times from the trail head to town and vice-versa.
Easier than Kearsarge due to high volume traffic to South Lake, North Lake and
Lake Sabrina.
>>>4. What sort of facilities are available in Bishop (eg grocery stores,
accommodation, etc)?<<<
Best facilites on the east side, with, perhaps, the exception of Mammoth
Lakes. Anything you need will be available.
No Way
