Hi all,
I just wanted to drop a line to the list saying that I have finished the
PCT. I started on May 9 at the Mexican border and reached the Canadian
border on August 21. Along the trail I became known as Suge, as in Sugar.
Sometimes Sugarmonkey. The trip was fantastic and the weather perfect a
few minutes of rain outside Mojave, 2.5 inches of snow north of Tuolumne,
heavy rain one night in Oregon, south of Crater Lake, and two days of
fog and mist in Washington, unfortunately when I was going around Adams
and later near Glacier Peak. No fires problems. The trail is in
immaculate condition. Even section O was clear of blow downs and the
trail easy to follow. Of course, I got lost a few times, but never
very far.
Sharon Dziengel (aka Jingle or Birdie du Flatis) finished with me. Will
Tarantino finished around
August 16 and Wall (Ray someone or other) finished around August 3rd.
There was someone signing in as Zebediah who finished July 24,
but I am not sure if he was actually a thru hiker, although he supposedly
tells people this. If he did go border to border, he'll be the new
holder of the speed record, I think. Otherwise, I think Wall got across
in a day or three less than Flyin' Brian's hike a few years back.
I passed up the main group of hikers back in Kennedy Meadows and saw very
few after Tahoe. Rye Dog and Tutu should be about done. Graham and
Falcor should be a bit further back, as should Walt, Floater, and Stone.
Pacific Beast, who I didn't meet, should also be about done.
More later,
Chris, the hiker formerly known as Suge
