[pct-l] Los Angeles neigborhood

Alain:

In theory, it's possible to get to PCT trailheads from Los Angeles via
public transportation--but it won't be easy, and it'll probably eat up a
good portion of your five days! (If you want to try, start at www.mta.net.)
A better bet, I think, is to ask PCT-L readers in the LA area for a
ride--and I'm confident you'll have no problem getting one.

In fact, depending on your schedule, I can probably help out. I live in
Pasadena, which lies between LA and the trail. Let me know your travel
arrangements. If I don't have anything else going, I'd be happy to get you
from the airport to the trail and back.

As for where to go, it's still hot and dry here in October, so you'll want
to stay at fairly high elevations--and be prepared to carry lots of water.
For section D, that means staying between Blue Ridge (near Wrightwood) and
Mt. Gleason, a stretch of about 60+ miles. This underrated area actually has
some terrific hiking. Within that stretch there are plenty of places to join
or leave the trail, so you can adjust the length to fit your hiking style
and schedule.

Cheers,
Carl
