Pacific Crest Trail Closed on Portions of Mt Hood National Forest
PCT Hikers Offered Shuttle Service

Sandy, OR – Effective Immediately the Mt. Hood National Forest has closed
the portion of the Pacific Crest Trail that runs from Clackamas Lake near
Forest Road 42 to the southern forest boundary at Breitenbush Lake. This
closure is due to the Booth and Bear Butte Fires burning on the Deschutes
National Forest. This closure is in conjunction with the closure of Mt.
Jefferson and Mt. Washington wildernesses.

Hikers who are already on the PCT and hiking south can meet at noon daily,
starting Friday August 22nd at the Clackamas Lake Guard Station on Forest
Road 42 near the junction with FR 57. A shuttle will pick them up and take
them to the PCT trailhead on Highway 242, south of the Mt. Washington
Wilderness so they can continue their hike.

Many PCT hikers use Olallie Lake Resort as a drop point for supplies.
Although the Resort will remain open, the packages will be delivered to the
Clackamas Lake Guard Station.

Signs and Forest Service employees will be in place to notify hikers already
on the trail.
