[pct-l] Bear Canisters

Ditto that. I'll be carrying a canister on the JMT, even though I am unhappy about the weight. Yosemite is starting to require canisters in certain parts of the park (they had a notice up in the TM ranger station a few weeks ago), and the web sites for Inyo Nat'l Forest and Sequoia/Kings Canyon say they are requiring the same.

Doing a thru-hike doesn't leave as much room for error as a weekend trip, so I'm up for being conservative and sleeping easier at night. That being said, it's up to us to be stewards of the wilderness and to act responsibly. I'd hate to contribute to the delinquincy (or death?) of a bear just because I found it inconvenient to carry an extra three pounds.... Didn't mean that to sound so preachy -- sorry.
