[pct-l] Re: Sec. N

I just called the almanor ranger district today, and what i was told is a
little different. Yes, they will not be hiring crews for trail
maintainance, but that doesn't mean there will be no work done. I am in the
early process of organizing some volunteers to help their trail manager with
clearing the trails. The biggest problem is the amount of work to be done.
There were quite a few blow downs this year in the area, so the project is
big. There are lots of miles of trails to clear, not just the PCT.
Hopefully, we can get them cleared before majority of the hikers are on the
trails in this area. If there is anyone in the area interested in helping,
let me know. I will be talking to the trail manager probably this afternoon
to see what is going on.

I just spoke to a ranger from the Almanor Ranger District of Lassen National
Forest. They are in charge of trail maintenance from Belden to the Lassen NP
boundary. She said that this year, due to lack of funds to hire crews, they
will be no work done on the PCT in that area. In other words, whatever
blowdowns are there, are staying there. Aren't tax cuts great??

Does anyone happen to know what this section is like this year? If the
blowdowns are anything like they are up in my neck of the woods, those
thru-hikers will be in for a nasty surprise.
