[pct-l] Change is Better??

Change is ALWAYS better?? Humm? Remember a small place when you were a kid
and it got bigger as time past. Gone is the little Ma and Pa store where you
bought ice cream and penny candy. Today , in it's place is a strip mall with
Auto parts store , a Subway Sandwich shop etc. Is it much today than 20 twenty
year ago?
Change isn't always for the better . Even the most Grizzled
backpacker will change to some Ultralight ideas after they have been proven on the
trail a few years. The older folks with wisdom do let each new year's " Fad "
pass though until time proves it. If someone did the same thing for 50 years
repeatedly, they still have more wisdom than when the started. Things seem to
always come around again. The 3 and a half pound BB5 Kelty pack is still a good
pack that would haul 50 lbs day after day. The lowly wool shirt still does a
good job of keeping you warm. If it ain't broke , why fix it. Some things like
running shoes, tarp tents and alcohol stoves are quickly adapted by even the
old school hikers while their wisdom lets other widgets fall into the cracks.
Who over 50 thinks they had more wisdom at 25 y/o? Generation X can
still learn from the " War Babies".
