[pct-l] Backpacking Gear in today's free-market

I couldn't agree more with what Ron said about the availability of outdoor gear. I've been involved in hiking and backpacking since 1970. I can't remember when there was a time that there was wider variety of gear available. It's fantastic. So many people are making their own and even marketing their gear.

When has anyone seen more lightweight packs, sleeping bags, stoves, raingear and tarps or tarp/tents than there are today? And there are still plenty of heavy ones for people who haven't made the switch.

Go to any medium to large gathering of hikers and you will be sure to find several people demonstrating new innovations in all manner of gear. And of course many will be selling their gear as well.

This is the Golden Age of backpacking gear.
