[pct-l] PCT: Steven's Pass to Stehekin?

David,

Carry an ice ax. You will have snow covered passes through Glacier Peak Wilderness. Fire Creek Pass is always tricky. Depending on snow levels this year, much of the trail may be snowbound. Make a conscious effort to make decisions based on how your body feels and not as much based on a fixed ending point, i.e. "I have to make it over this pass tonight," or "I must do 30 miles a day ..." Take mental and physical rest breaks before and/or after crossing big stretches of snow. Regain a balanced center whenever necessary. Take deep, even breaths.

This is a rugged section, and the time it takes you to hike it depends on your level of training (how much you walk in the day-to-day world with a pack on), the amount of snow, and how many hours you spend on trail walking each day. How much walking can you do propelled by joy in the face of pain?

Feel the trail. Tune in to the solitude. Be the connection between your maps and the natural world. Feel the wobble in your knees. Drink alot of water. There's much wide-eyed wonder to behold.

Good luck,
Ben Armstrong

I wondered if anyone has done this trip -- about 100 miles -- around mid
July. How long did it take, and did you encounter snow that slowed you
down? Recommend crampons and ice ax? Thanks for any words of wisdom!
